USW Local 1299 continues seeking the return to work of members with Contractual Recall Rights at U.S. Steel Great Lakes Works. This effort is evolving into an unfortunately bitter dispute. Management of U.S. Steel GLW continues to refuse to recognize the Contractual Obligation, Economic Value, and Workplace Health & Safety advantages and corrections such a recall would spawn.

 U.S. Steel GLW, additionally, refuses to offer nearly 100 USW Local 1299 Members who have accumulated 3 or more years of Continuous Service a Severance Allowance as cited in The Agreement between United States Steel Corporation and The United Steelworkers effective September 1, 2008.

 Grievances contesting these Contractual Violations have been filed concerning the Recall and Severance Allowance Issues. Here again Management of U.S. Steel denies any Contractual Violations, Grievances remain unresolved, and members remain bitterly, bitterly unemployed. This goes on while high levels of Overtime and non - normal Schedules are utilized by management of GLW. Both Members remaining on layoff and Members working undesired overtime feel the impact on a continued and ,in many cases, unhealthy basis.

 The Health, Safety, and Well being of all members represented by the United Steelworkers is a fundamental objective of the Steelworkers Union. USW Local 1299 supported by the USW International and District 2  Headquarters in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin will not rest until all U.S.Steel GLW Contractual Injustices are resolved, member Contractual obligations are adequately met, and Normal hours of Work absent of undesirable levels of overtime become the rule and not the exception.
